Natural Materials

On Thursday our class visited Central Slovakian Gallery in Banská Bystrica. What do you think about the title “Natural Materials”? At first we thought it will be next boring exhibition like those we had visited when we were younger, but in fact the exhibition created by the artists Richard Loskot and Michal Šimonfy really surprised us. It was very interesting and it proofed that young people like us are still interested in art and also that we can’t judge the book according to its cover. Even if the exhibition has the word “nature” in title, it doesn’t mean it has to be boring.

 We saw 6 amazing installations.

1. Light Path – Richard Loskot

This installation is built from 1 reflector and 6 mirrors. In my opinion it has something with light reflection which we had studied at Physics. The author with simple equipment and knowledge about optics shows us plenty of thoughts about light, time, space and about the way of seeing things.

2. Life of Your Words – Michal Šimonfy 

This installation is very surprising. At first I thought that animation on the wall depicts bacteria and their movements. Truth be told, I was wrong. It is artistic software which spy discussions about life and death all around the world and represents it by little green fast moving dots. Seriously I will be more careful in chatting with my friends, because I never realised that someone can read it and use it.

3. Even a Person is a System – Richard Loskot

This installation took us the most of our time which we spent in the Central Slovakian Gallery. It depicts a person in today’s technician world.  Through the electrical circuit and technician equipment the author showed us basic components of nature necessary for our lives e.g. sun, light, time, movement, water, air, sound …  

 

4. For Two - Michal Šimonfy

The funniest part of our visit was table with 2 chairs. When 2 persons sit and put the sensor on their fingers the sensor starts to measure their heartbeats and than the intelligent machine shows graphs on the screen. That’s the way how you can find your “soul mate”.

5. Everything Has Its Time – Richard Loskot

This light installation impressed me the most. Installation with simple technical equipment shows us imaginative movement of the rose’s shadow. Everyone has its own understanding of time and I realized it because of this installation. 

6. Fruit map – Michal Šimonfy

Fruitmap.sk is opened map where people can register fruit trees. It works as an individual internet project on www.fruitmap.sk. If you want you can join!

Secessionist art

Secession is the last of universal international artistic styles. Secession created a fashion and lifestyle in the late 19th and early 20th century. Famous secessionists were Gustav Klimt, Alfons Mucha, Charles Rennie Mackintosh …

What is special in secessionist movement is that secessionist didn’t use straight lines, they were using unusual colors and natural shapes (leaves, flowers …) and they weren’t focused on details but mainly on colors. Everything was formed to show contrast and harmony.

Bono

This article is about Paul David Henson, most commonly know by his stage name Bono. He is Irish singer, musician and leader singer Dublin’s rock band U2. U2 is one of the most popular rock bands of the last 30 years.

 He was born in Ballymum, Dublin on May 10^th 1960. He went to Galsnevin National School and Mount Temple Compreshive School. During his childhood and adolescence, Paul and his friends were part of a street gang called “Lypton Village”. The gang has ritual of nickname-giving. Paul had several names, but finally name is “Bono Vox” it means “good voice”. Bono is married to Alison Hewson and they have four children.

U2 formed when the members were teenagers. First name was “Feedback”, but after several concerts they changed name to “The Hype”. One member left this group and other members formed U2. We don’t know what U2 means. It can be U2 spy plane, U2 like “you too” or only U and 2.

 

Bono writes almost all U2 lyrics, using religious and social themes. His lyrics frequently allude to a religious connection or meaning, evident in songs such as "Gloria" from the band's album October, and "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For".  Bono has won numerous awards with U2, including 22 Grammy awards and the 2003 Golden Globe award for best original song, "The Hands That Built America", for the film Gangs of New York. Bono has become one of the world's best-known philanthropic performers and was named the most politically effective celebrity of all time.

 

I chose him because U2 is one of my dad’s favourite rock bands and he grew up with this music and. And also I think, Bono is still same and fame didn’t change him a lot. For example, he still lives in Dublin and he organizes benefit concerts. But in one he has changed a lot. Because he is rich, he can send a lot of money to charities. These charities help to people in Africa. That’s the reason why I chose him.

Exhibition of the work of Mária Čorejová

Hi guys! I am sorry that I didn’t write anything for a long time, I was on a trip in Germany. During I was there, my classmates visited Mária Čorejová's exhibition A Conversation Leading Elsewhere, so I decided to write to you about it.  

The artist in recent years has mainly been working in the medium of drawing, but has always inclined towards multimedia intermediate and collective Works and work with space which have been part of her strategy since the start of her career.  

Therefore Maria Corejova invited cooperation on exhibition from the curators from her material for other famous artist and designs, so it is not just her own work. 

 

The exhibition was really interesting and my classmates enjoyed it! It’s a pity that the exhibition finished on 28th April and I didn’t visit it.  

Validation

On Tuesday we were watching short movie Validation at school. Everyone enjoyed it, so I decided to write to you about it! I hope you will like this article and you will check this film out :)

Hugh Newman is a parking attendant who is doing more than validate parking. He makes people smile, he wants to see them happy and he wants to see their smile. He is telling them: “You are great, you are amazing person.” Soon, he becomes so popular. He appears on news and meets George W. Bush and Saddam Hussein. It seems to be no one Hugh Newman cannot make smile. But one day he goes to get his driver's license photo taken and he met with a beautiful photographer Victoria who he can't get to smile. He is trying a long time to make her smile but he doesn’t succeed. He stop smiling, he lose job, interest and energy to make people smile. Then he meets couple and they ask him to make a photo to them. He makes them smile and he finds a new job as a photographer. He meets a woman on the wheelchair with very hard life but he makes her smile. It was Victoria’s mother. Finally he found out that Victoria makes people smile, just because of him and they make people smile together.

My Earth Hour Personal Photos

Here are my personal photos from Earth Hour. I know they aren’t in the best quality but as you can see I used a lot of candles. It was really funny to take pictures in the dark and almost our apartment caught fire. I really enjoyed Earth Hour, probably I will have Earth Hour every weekend :D How did you spend your Earth Hour?  :)

Earth Hour

Millions of people around the world switch off their lights for Earth Hour at 8.30pm (20:30) in their local times on the last Saturday of March each year. In 2013, Earth Hour occurs one week earlier, on March 23.
 

 Earth Hour is a worldwide event organized by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) and held towards the end of March annually, encouraging households and businesses to turn off their non-essential lights for one hour to raise awareness about the need to take action on climate change. The event, conceived by WWF and Leo Burnett, first took place in 2007, when 2.2 million residents of Sydney participated by turning off all non-essential lights. Following Sydney's lead, many other cities around the world adopted the event in 2008. Earth Hour 2013 will be held on March 23, 2013 from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., at participants' local time.

 
Some people enjoy Earth Hour with a candle-lit dinner or a candle-lit bath, while others host large events or parties, either in darkness or with candles, to celebrate Earth Hour.

How is paper made

Trees are cut down by lumberjacks. The wood is loaded on a lorry and sent to a factory. Wood is cut it into small pieces called "chips". The tiny pieces are cooked into the water. It’s pressed into a sheet. When the sheet of paper dried, they are put onto big rolls. Then the paper is made from rolls of paper. 

Youth Without Youth

Yesterday I saw a movie “Youth Without Youth” at school so I decided to write to you about it. If you will be interested, you can watch this movie online here: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0481797/.

Youth Without Youth (2007) is a fantasy drama film written and directed by Francis Ford Coppola, based on the novella of the same name by Romanian author Mircea Eliade. The film is a co-production between the United States, Romania, France, Italy and Germany. It is starring by Tim Roth, Bruno Ganz, Alexandra Maria Lara, André Hennicke, Marcel Iureş and Adrian Pintea.

When the 70-year-old man is struck by lightning, his age begins to reverse as his mind grows infinitely more brilliant. Determined to understand the origins of language and consciousness, the fugitive professor leads authorities on a wild chase through Romania, Switzerland, Malta, and India.

This film is part of Romanian culture and we were watching it during our Art and Culture lessons. In my opinion, this film was really difficult to understand for teenagers, it was very philosophical film, I was like “What is going on there right now?”, and our British teacher was like “Do I exist, do you exist?” and I don’t judge this film, because I think it was good film with great actors and I think everyone should create own opinion. In my view it was great film, for adults but not for teenagers because sometimes I really didn’t know what was happening.

This week I am going to tell you about my favourite English website. My favourite website is Google. Where can I find some information if I don’t want to look for them in a plenty of books? The fastest way is Google. Google is the best, the largest and the most widely used global search information on the Internet. Google began in March 1996 as a research project by Larry Page and Sergey Brin, students at Stanford. The name "Google" originated from a misspelling of "googol", which refers to the number represented by a 1 followed by one-hundred zeros.

Water Problems

In sophisticated coutries like ours, we don't need to to think about a drinking water. Of course, we've got Sprite, Coca Cola, so why I am writing to you about it? We don't need to think about it, but the major problem in Africa is lack of a drinking water. Water scarcity or lack of save drinking water is one of the world's leading problems affecting more than 1.1 billion people globally, meaning that one in every six people lacks access to safe drinking water. You can't grow food, you can't build house, you can't stay healthy, you can't stay in school and you can't keep working.
Why we can't solve this problem?
At first we need to realize that we can't contaminate water. We need to appreciate water!
But everyone has to realize it! Not just African countries have a problem with water. In few years, Europe will also have a big problem. For example, Belgians quickly loose their groundwater.
